The first time Rosie allowed Karen Wylie’s daughter to stroke her was a moment the family hadn’t expected. For a dog who had spent so much time avoiding people, accepting that contact felt significant. It was one of several changes Karen noticed after adding MagiCalm® to Rosie’s routine.

Meet Rosie
Rosie is a mixed-breed rescue with Shih Tzu and Papillon ancestry. Born during lockdown, she had experienced little human contact before joining Karen’s family in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire.
Learning to feel at home
Adjusting to family life was difficult. During her first two days at home, Rosie stayed on the sofa and wouldn’t eat. Even the garden offered little reassurance: she immediately looked for somewhere to hide.
Over the following years, the space behind the sofa became her retreat. Visitors rarely saw her, and a knock at the door was enough to send her out of sight.
Karen could see that Rosie wanted to be close to the family, but found being noticed difficult.
Looking for support
Karen sought help from both a dog trainer and a vet. She reported that the medication prescribed for Rosie did not give her the improvement she had hoped for and made Rosie feel sick.
While exploring other options, Karen came across MagiCalm® for Dogs and decided to try it.
The beef-flavoured supplement contains magnesium, B vitamins, amino acids including L-tryptophan and L-tyrosine, and chamomile. It is formulated to support calmer behaviour and emotional balance.
Karen felt that Rosie’s demeanour began to change soon after she introduced it.
“You could tell by her demeanour that she was less anxious.”
Small moments that mattered
Over time, Karen saw Rosie spending less time hidden away and taking a greater part in everyday family life.
Alongside allowing Karen’s daughter to stroke her, Rosie began approaching Karen’s husband and patting his leg to ask for a treat. She also became more comfortable resting on the sofa or in the middle of the room with people nearby.
Rosie still has her boundaries. She retreats to her box when strangers visit and remains cautious around children. Karen nevertheless describes her as happier outdoors and more tolerant of noise.
When another dog, Ebony, joined the household, Rosie took to her affectionately, treating the newcomer like her own puppy.
For Karen, seeing those aspects of Rosie’s character emerge has been particularly rewarding.
“It makes me so happy seeing Rosie happy and confident. You see her personality now rather than her anxiety.”
